No, not mandatory. For most furniture, paintings and decorative items, no paperwork is required. For very valuable jewellery (>€5,000), we simply recommend having ID handy for the administrative side.

In Belgium, cash payments between individuals and professionals are capped at €3,000 per transaction. Above that, we pay by instant bank transfer (within 15 minutes), or combine cash (up to €3,000) + transfer for the balance.
